Denmark rejects Nord Stream 2 AG’s appeal against ‘19 route ruling

MOSCOW, Jun 22 (PRIME) -- Denmark’s council of appeal in March 2021 rejected an appeal of Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline, against a 2019 demand of the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) to consider a new route of the pipeline, as seen by PRIME on Tuesday in a Eurobond prospectus of gas giant Gazprom.

Nord Stream 2 AG filed the appeal in 2019 against DEA’s decision demanding the company prepare and submit an environmental report and a request for construction of the pipeline to southwest from the Bornholm Island in the country’s exclusive economic zone. At the time, the regulator was considering two requests for alternative routes of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Gazprom said.

“On March 22, 2021, Denmark’s council of appeal denied the appeal of Nord Stream 2 AG. The decision has no impact on the ongoing work and implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project,” the company said in the prospectus.

The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom builds the pipeline together with Germany’s Uniper and Wintershall Dea, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie.
